Forever Amazed,  Forever Learning

A New home for a New Season

It’s almost been a year since I’ve posted anything about what’s going on in the adventurous life of Jordan and Kelsey White, which must mean life has just been too good to stop, right?!

Well, here’s the newest update — WE MOVED!…. uhhhbout a month ago! But anyone who’s journeyed with us thus far knows that any time we move, it’s kind of an ordeal, but also always super awesome. So, here’s how our most recent move went down!

Let me start off by saying that we absolutely enjoyed our 2 years in our little 600sq ft apartment. It was beautiful and quaint, but was still able to *just barely* fit our giant couches (Thank God! We definitely didn’t measure those babies before we bought them!). However, not only were they raising the rent by an absurd amount, we were kind of outgrowing our little space (and NO, not because of babies…sorry, friends!).

As I began the search for a new home, I actually started looking at houses to rent because, let’s be honest, renting an apartment where we live can be just as expensive as renting a house, and also, I really just wanted a backyard for a puppy!

I actually did end up finding a house that I had fallen in love with! It was PERFECT. Perfect location, perfect size, and super cute. This house popped up a few times in my e-mail on a list of houses for rent. But every time I would go to e-mail the realtor for a price, it would disappear and just say that it had recently been sold. This went on for a few weeks actually. It was insanely frustrating and eventually I just gave up. About a month later, I had been re-looking at this house online, admiring all that it was and basically telling Jordan that this was supposed to be our house! The NEXT DAY Jordan and I just happened to be driving past this house on our way back to work, and out of the corner of my eye, I happened to notice a sign. I quickly told him to turn around. To my surprise, there was in fact a “For Rent” sign on the property! It was OFFICIALLY for RENT! I immediately contacted the realtor for the pricing info. I also reached out to a few friends and asked them to be praying for favor as CLEARLY this was a sign from the Lord, RIGHT?!…..WRONG!

I remember praying and asking God to either give us INSANE favor, as I knew we would need it for such a beautiful house (as far as how much it would be renting for), or to help me be okay if this wasn’t the house for us. I quickly learned that it was 100% not going to happen. It was way out of our budget, which definitely made it easier in the sense that we didn’t have to sit around questioning how to “make this work”.

I’m not gonna lie, I still don’t fully understand why I was so drawn to that house and why it played out the way it did. But I do know that my God is a good God and continues to bless us in the perfect ways that we NEED and not necessarily always in the ways that we think we need, or even want.

So my searching continued, and not long after, led me to a craigslist posting of an insanely gorgeous 2 bed 2 bath apartment in a great location, and for an even more amazing price. We immediately went to go see it. They told us there was actually a very long waiting list for this apartment, but that no one had called back and since we had stopped by, it was ours if we wanted it! Myself, being the girl that I am, was all messed up in my head and was so unsure of what to do! It was gorgeous and perfect, but I didn’t want to “settle” if God had something better in mind for us. You see, I was so stuck on how God had provided for us in the past:

  • Super last minute (like a week before we had to be out of our place!)
  • No Application Fee (No risk!)
  • Only $150 deposit (Heck ya!)

We found this place with over a MONTH of time before we had to be out of our old place. (Thaaaat’s not last minute!)

There was definitely an application fee this time. (Thaaaat’s not FREE!)..

And our deposit was looking like it was going to be more like 1 months rent, instead of basically nothing. (Thaaaat’s…a LOT of money!)

This was not how God would provide for us, right?! This was going to cost us way more money than how He had blessed us last time. It was so CLEAR that we had found the perfect place last time. But this time, I was so unsure; and we didn’t really have time to figure it out since this place could be gone at any second.

We eventually made the decision to just move forward with the holding deposit, even though I was still not totally sold (which was a really hard thing for me). It took the next few days for things to fully settle in my mind. God began to speak a bit more clearly through friends and even a Facebook post, that we were in fact not settling, but that this was clearly an amazing blessing that He had led us to.

A friend of ours had posted on Facebook

God is a faithful provider; but He doesn’t always do it the same way or even with the same timing! So, keep trusting Him for the things you need and keep a watchful eye out, because HOW and WHEN He pulls it off just might surprise you!

It’s so funny how small our little minds can be and how we can get so fixated on how we think things should go, that we often miss what God is doing right in front of us! I was so stuck on how God had provided for us in the last season, that I was having a hard time clearly seeing that this was a different season. and thus, He was providing in different ways!

We were in a very different place last time when we were looking for a home, and He was very faithful in providing for us in the exact ways that we needed and THEN SOME (because He’s good like that).  It was actually the exact same this time, it just looked different haha. The same, but different. That’s our God. He loves us all the same, but it sometimes looks different. He’s so faithful and so good to provide in just the right ways that we need.

Our new home is gorgeous and it’s so big! We basically doubled the size of what we were living in.  I legit feel like we live in a mansion now. I actually have to yell to talk to Jordan in the other room! We’re in a brand new apartment complex that was built just a few years ago, so everything was designed so beautifully and meticulous (minus that stupid fire alarm right above our couch–of all the places, why there?!). But it really is a big deal for us as creative people, to have found ourselves in such a beautiful environment. I truly believe it is exactly what we needed for this next season.

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 walk-in closets AND we are paying about $500 less than what this apartment actually goes for! Oh! And somehow we didn’t have any issues with our credit which made our deposit less than half of what we thought we were going to have to pay!

We are truly so blessed and so thankful that once again, God led and directed us to the perfect place for the season that we are in. We continue to learn and grow. We continue to learn how to appreciate each season for what it is as well as constantly be be amazed by His goodness and faithfulness. Always learning, always growing, always keeping us on our feet!

Thanks for stopping by, friends! Until next time. Cheers! <3
